Tommi Lindh

Tomo Lindh works to advance building conservation and high-quality architectural conservation projects focused on modern movement buildings and sites. As CEO of the Alvar Aalto Foundation, he is responsible for preserving and promoting the legacy of architect Alvar Aalto (1898-1976), Aino Aalto (1894-1949), Elissa Aalto (1922-1994), and the architectural office Alvar Aalto & Co.

He studied architecture at the Helsinki University of Technology and graduated as an architect in 1993. In 2009, he obtained a Licentiate of Science degree in Architecture. Architectural history and conservation have been central to both his professional work and research since 1982.

Lindh became the first CEO of the Alvar Aalto Foundation on May 1, 2018. Prior to this, he served as Director of the Foundation from 2013 to 2018. Between 2010 and 2013, he worked as Senior Adviser for Conservation at Finland’s Ministry of the Environment. Earlier, from 1998 to 2010, he served as architect and keeper of antiquities at the Finnish National Board of Antiquities, and from 1990 to 1998 he ran his own architectural practice in Helsinki.

His international roles have included membership of the ICCROM Council (International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property) from 2007 to 2011, leadership of the NORDMAK course, organization of the international MARC course, membership of the Scientific Committee of the Council of Europe Alvar Aalto Route, and participation in the organizing committee of the international Alvar Aalto Symposium.

In Finland, he has held numerous positions of trust, including board memberships in the Finnish Architectural Society, the Finnish Association of Architects (SAFA), DOCOMOMO Finland, the Alvar Aalto Foundation, and the Centre for Finnish Architecture. He has also served on the Research Committee of the Museum of Finnish Architecture since 2003.
